The only German I know
is Ich Liebe Dich.
It gets me into a lot of trouble.
Ich Liebe Dich, liebling.
Ich bin ein Berliner.
Kiss me. Kiss me.

(That bit's international.)
And then he's still hanging around
But the moment's gone
and I'm gone too but
he's close behind
calling to me in words I don't understand,
clutching my hands and my face and other things too so I have to say
Nir ist publick!
As though it means anything to him.
Never give your heart so freely.
Why would I want his when I don't know what to do with my own?
Das ist nicht my boyfriend.
Das ist mein noyfriend.

Hark! a poem! I'm surprised too. This, along with "Everything He Touches Turns To Edwyn Collins" ([link]), is the beginning of a series of writings based on songs. This one is Noyfriend by Shimura Curves, which is a very good song indeed. The last two lines are from the chorus, but maybe I got them wrong, but anyway. Poem!

I don't speak German, sadly.

Aw, you should learn! It's a lovely language.
"But the moment's gone
and I'm gone too but
he's close behind"
I love these lines.

The title sort of makes me cringe, but the poem is great.

Just because there are things I don't remember, that doesn't mean my actions are meaningless. The world doesn't just disappear when you close your eyes, does it?
:iconmacdoherty:
Thank you. But the title's just taken from the song that inspired it, so I'm mostly blameless, I swear!

I really wish I could. I've been useless at languages my whole life. I'm in awe of anyone who knows more than one. It's so pathetic! But I can say many types of food in many languages, and sometimes please and thank-you too, and those are the most important, I think.

Danke schoen!

Ich bin ein Berliner always cracks me up. In the first week of german class we learned that JFK (it was JFK who said that?) meant 'I am from Berlin. I am one of you.' but because he put ein in there.. he said 'I am a jelly donut' .. :giggle:

anyway, I like this! The use of another language spices it up some, leaving a cool flavor in afterthought.. or maybe I'm biased, because I love German. Who knows? ;)

Yeah, I love that story. My favourite JFK/language story is on the day of his assassination, one of the agents in one of the other cars in the calvacade saw the building sign for the book depository coming up but it was distorted, and his last words before Kennedy was shot were "what the hell's a book whispository?" which I've always found so funny for some reason.

Yes, anyway, thank you! I love German too, I just wish I could speak it!
